Join Us in Prayer

Each week of the General Assembly People of Faith prays for and with the representatives of our commonwealth.  If you cannot join us in person during the 2012 session, we invite you to join with us in spirit.  Each week, we will offer a new prayer for the General Assembly and the Commonwealth.  We hope these prayers and meditations will nourish your spirit as we continue our work for justice and equality in Virginia.

Here we offer our prayer for the opening week of the General Assembly Session:

Holy God, You who create all, we come to you knowing our limitations, and trusting in Your compassion. You create all people in love, and for love. You cherish Your whole creation in joy, and for joy. Help us, we pray, to see the beauty in each other. Help us to stop attaching labels to people; help us to no longer create categories of exclusion and judgment. Help us to transform our history of injustice into the glorious realm of liberty and equality for all. Guide us forward, God. Steady our hands, enlarge our hearts, open our minds, empower our feet, sweeten our tongues—that we may grow in strength and wisdom to receive Your gift of this magnificent Commonwealth. Amen.

We encourage you to share your own prayers here

This is our second year hosting weekly prayer gatherings at the Virginia GA.  If you are looking for more inspiration, you can read last year's prayer and devotions, which were written by People of Faith members from across the state.

People of Faith also sponsored our annual Prayer Breakfast for Equality on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church.  We were blessed by the music of Dr. Jonathan Lebolt, a member of Congregation Or Ami and MCC of Richmond.

Here he shares a song of hope, entitled "Jerusalem of Gold."
